Detective Charles Saindon of the Lawrence Police Auto Theft Unit was patrolling in the area of Plaza 114 following a report of a stolen motor vehicle. As he was passing by Marshalls, Detective Saindon’s attention was drawn to an unattended mountain bike next to the exit of the store. Moments later, a male runs from the store with several pocketbooks in his hands, all of which still had security tags on them. The male proceeded to jump on the bicycle and flee the area at a high rate of speed. Detective Saindon was able to follow the male undetected and pass the information on to other units in the area.
Moments later Detective Angel Lopez, also of the Auto Theft Unit, arrived and attempted to box in the suspect. The suspect continued in his attempt to flee, eventually jumping off the bicycle and attempting to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody by Detective Saindon. Giovani Cirino, age 44, of Lawrence was charged with Shoplifting, as well as an arrest warrant previously issued for Armed Robbery. He was arraigned on both charges in Lawrence District Court.
